The Science Olympiad Foundation Uganda was founded primarily to popularise science education; to bring children closer to the liking of science; and to demystify all stereotypes portraying the sciences as complex disciplines. Our sphere of activities aim at popularizing science education and creating a deeper understanding of scientific method.
Our core program, the National Science Olympiad (NSO), has over the years played a pivotal role in nurturing young minds and encouraging a passion for science. The NSO is a research-focused competition for primary and secondary school learners, that seeks to spark a curiosity for science among them while banking on their everyday classroom scientific theories. Following the end of the NSO, student teams are selected to represent the Country at the International Science Olympiads namely; The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), International Young Naturalists Tournament (IYNT), International Young Physicists Tournament (IYPT) and the International Mathematics Competition (IMC).
THE NATIONAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
The Olympiads are not just a competition; their objective is to provide a competitive platform to students, thus creating a talent pool for future.
The competition gives a chance to students to sharpen their skills by tackling a number of problems at a level not encountered in their classrooms.
Olympiads help in development of students' IQ, Logical and Analytical thinking from a very young age which helps them in later stages as they prepare for other competitive exams.
The Olympiads pool together the world's brightest minds into an environment where they can create everlasting positive bonds, exchange and learn with each other
The Olympiads will help students understand concepts and their application. The exams do not just test the students' knowledge of concepts but the application of those concepts.
Students who get high scores in the Olympiads have this achievement added to their academic profile. This helps students get direct admission into Top Universities worldwide.
The Olympiads help to identify a child's capability and real potential that may help them survive better in today's modern competitive world.
Bitter truth! The Olympiads will teach you how to lose and win. Students are going to learn a great lesson: that it takes a ton of effort to become a winner, but it’s worth it.
Last November,I had the opportunity to travel to Dubai for the SCITOUR 2020. The trip was amazing, we had fun and a lot of study. We were lucky to have visited all the Emirates in UAE in our 6 day trip. We had excellent learning from the various academic sites we visited including the Sharjah Center for Astronomy and Space Science, the first airport in UAE, the Al Mahatta, and most exciting was the flight experience at Dream Aero. I met new friends that still talk to today. The trip helped me bond with my classmates even more. I thank the Science Olympiad Foundation for giving me such a great opportunity.
My name is Pearl Mwesige, one of the students that went to Dubai towards the end of 2019. It was such a lovely experience, one I'm sure never to forget. We were exposed to so many different technologies; encounters that surely widened our scope of thinking. Not forgetting the friendships that we made that are sure to last us a lifetime. Thank you the Science Olympiad Foundation for the opportunity.
The Olympiads provide a great opportunity for a highly advanced practical approach to general science learning science. It gives exposure to learners together with their teachers, from the many experiences ranging from the challenging exams, to the global exposure during the various science trips across the globe.
My name is Timothy Kisembo, one of the students that formed the Uganda Delegation to the IJSO 2019 in Qatar. The Olympiad tests in general are good at awakening one's dormant mind. They are nut cracking, arousing one's critical thinking abilities. Besides the exams, I love the world class organization of the Olympiads. I remember I once got a simple cut during the practical examinations and the medics took too big and brought a lot of first materials. They kept checking on me regularly as though I was ICU patient.
