International Young Physicists Tournament

About the IYPT
The IYPT is a prestigious global competition that challenges secondary school students to solve complex, open-ended physics problems through year-long research, experimentation, and debate. Often referred to as the “Physics World Cup,” the IYPT emphasizes not just scientific knowledge, but also critical thinking, creativity, and communication. Teams of five students present and defend their research in structured “Physics Fights,” where they take on rotating roles as Presenter, Opponent, and Reviewer.

Structure and Format
The IYPT is structured around a series of dynamic, debate-style sessions called Physics Fights. Each participating team consists of five students, supported by one or two team leaders. The competition typically begins with five rounds of preliminary fights, each involving three teams who rotate through the roles of reporter, opponent and reviewer. Following the preliminaries, the top three ranked teams advance to the Final Fight, where they compete for the championship title.
